Alright this mightiness make up a stupid question, but can owners of the MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G and the ASUS STRIX GTX 970 please help me out here?

I know both of them have a 0db (Zero) - mode, where the fans turn off completely. Since I'm construction a silent PC, this is probably the main understanding for wherefore I'm soh fascinated in these 2 cards.

But since I plan on overclocking the GPU (and I know the MSI has the better OC potential), I'd like to know how much control over the fans you in reality have.
[ Btw did you know that the MSI GTX970 is lacking indipendent fan ascendency? Apparently only the MSI GTX980 has this feature :( ]

1. Can you change the buff/temperature curve without erasing the 0db mode? (I've read that the ASUS Strix alone goes up to 42% lover speed using car, which may Beaver State may not limit OCing &A; that the fans only put off when you'Ra victimization the motorcar fan speeds)

2. Can you change the temperature assess at which the fans start/stop spinning? (iirc ASUS Strix is pre-configured to ~65°C, the MSI to ~50-55 and tbh I think up 50°C is the better choice, so I'd like to know whether or not you can align the threshold)

3. Which software do you use to control the fans? MSI Afterburner?

Thanks in make headway :)

Ps: English people is not my mother lingua, indeed please go easy on me :ange:

I'm beautiful predestinate if you use a fan curve, you lose the 0db feature. This is one of the reasons I went for the MSI. I get into't want to lose the silence at low piles only I didn't want to be limited past the 42% max sports fan speed on the Asus.

seems like we're the only ones wondering :(
[ Or maybe I posted this at an abject time of the Clarence Shepard Day Jr.? :ange: ]

I'd really like to equal fit to create a custom fan curve where the fan quicken girdle at 0% until around 50°C (or some other temperature of my liking)... however I've heard that just heavy the fan speed to 0% in Afterburner does non in reality turn the fans forth because every manufacturer has a min. fan speed set in the GPU BIOS (~25%) and IT won't set aside any fan speeds lower than that

Now the head remains whether Oregon non the MSI & the ASUS Strix accept a Fukien. fan speed like that (>0% and only when the manufacturer's automatic fan speeds keister "overwrite" that prise) operating room whether that min fan speed actually is =0% (and therefore can be accustomed put off the fans in Afterburner when overwriting the fan upper sheer)

Postscript: Thanks :)

I'm pretty sure if you function a fan curvature, you lose the 0db lineament. This is one of the reasons I went for the MSI. I wear't want to lose the silence at low loads but I didn't wishing to be express past the 42% grievous bodily harm fan speed along the Asus.

Well that sucks...
I hazard I'll also accept the MSI then.

Thanks

Yeah :/ it does. No worries at altogether.
MSI seems to personify the way to go, I just wish it had a backplate :p

I concord I miss the backplate, but it's a retch card. I keep my fans at 50% and I can scantily hear them...pretty nice

[ Or maybe I posted this at an unfortunate time of the daytime? :ange: ]

I'd genuinely like to atomic number 4 able to create a custom fan curve where the fan speed stays at 0% until around 50°C (or any other temperature of my liking)... however I've heard that just lowering the fan speed to 0% in Afterburner does not in reality turning the fans off because every manufacturer has a min. fan speed set in the GPU BIOS (~25%) and it North Korean won't allow any fan speeds lower than that

Now the question remains whether or not the MSI & the ASUS Strix have a Min dialect. fan speed like that (>0% and only the manufacturer's automatic fan speeds can "overwrite" that value) or whether that min fan hurrying actually is =0% (and therefore fanny be used to turn out the fans in Afterburner when overwriting the fan accelerate sheer)

Ps: Thanks :)

I own a Genus Strix 970 and ASUS GPU Tweak let's me solidification the fan speeds easily, shaping when you deficiency the fans to trip (they stay hit under this temporary worker), when you want them to belt along up, and what upper limit fan speed you want them to achieve adequate to 100%, so yea you can fully delimitate the curves and I like it means better than Afterburner. The Genus Strix is a good deal better than the MSI card in my ruling, and has AMAZING OC potency.

I'm pretty sure if you use a fan cut, you lose the 0db characteristic. This is one of the reasons I went for the MSI. I don't lack to lose the silence at low loads only I didn't want to be limited by the 42% max sports fan fastness on the Asus.

Nope, you don't lose the silent when mise en scene the curve using ASUS GPU Tweak. Don't use Afterburner with this bill.

I actually induce gigabyte cards now lol...

but I'm real ready to see what happens with the 980ti now...I'd the like to trade my 2xGTX 970 Gigabytes for a one-man 980ti....hopefully EVGA Classy :)...I'm hoping the February rumor is veracious!

I have the EVGA_sc version of this card that has the 0db fashion, but at irresponsible the temps are always in the 60c zone with the fans off, which I find pretty lofty. I use afterburner to keep the fans at 40% minimum which keeps the add-in at 42c when idle. I do really the likes of the card though. Performs very well, and even though idle temps are a tad high its never at rest over 67c under the heaviest lode. (simply steady at 40% I can def hear the fans...)

Just one interrogative Hera (don't want to open a new thread):

Is there a way of controling fan speed under 40% on the STRIX 970 OC?
My job is that, in manual mode Oregon in user define musical mode (curve), I buttocks control the fans in this manner:
- 0%
- and than the range from 40-100%

I cannot find how to check the speed between 0 and 40% :/

Also, my fans get bad loud, even at 55-60 they are really audiable, and anything above 65% it gets noisy and with some strange vibrations. Anything?
